Sephora joined Lidion Bank in 2019 after completing her degree and has since become a vital part of our team. Her journey with us highlights the extensive opportunities for professional and personal development that Lidion Bank provides. We spoke with Sephora to learn more about her role, her experiences, and her advice for those interested in pursuing a career in financial services.

1.     Can you tell us about your journey with Lidion Bank and what initially attracted you to work here?

My journey began in 2019, shortly after completing my degree studies. This position represents my first full-time role. I vividly recall my enthusiasm when I was offered the opportunity to join the Operations team. I recognized the significant value of this experience, as it allowed me to collaborate with various departments, including Business Relations, Credit, Finance, Financial Crime and Compliance, at that time. This role presented an ideal opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills, precisely aligning with my career aspirations.

2.     What is your role at Lidion Bank, and what are your primary responsibilities?

As an Operations Officer, being part of the Operations Team carries significant responsibility and provides immense satisfaction, as the team functions as often regarded as 'heart of the Bank.' My primary duties and responsibilities encompass delivering the Bank's services with accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness, and ensuring the seamless execution of daily banking operations in collaboration with the Team Lead. We operate within a structured and organized operational framework that adheres to policies and procedures while maintaining practicality.  I am grateful for the trust placed in me by senior leadership in delegating specific tasks, enabling me to contribute meaningfully to our team's success.

3.     What does a typical day or week look like for you in your role?

While certain tasks, such as reconciling accounts and monitoring term deposits, must be completed daily, no two days or weeks are identical. This variability arises from the diverse needs of clients, which depend on their specific business operations. Tasks also fluctuate based on the time of the month; for instance, account openings increase at month-end. Additionally, there are days when I collaborate with our team manager to test new products, ensuring we provide the best service to our clients.

4.     What do you enjoy most about working at Lidion Bank?

As the Bank continues to expand, I have the opportunity to engage with new individuals who bring extensive experience and valuable skills, fosteringcollaboration and knowledge sharing. Additionally, I take great pride inworking with a team that I now consider more than just colleagues; they have become like family. Together, we have navigated both challenging and rewarding times.

5.     How would you describe the company culture at Lidion Bank?

I have witnessed the Bank transform, rebrand, evolve, and grow, with a strategic focus on the digital and technology sectors. Despite these changes, one constant has been the Bank's unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the exceptional banking experience they deserve.

6.     What are you passionate about outside of work?

I greatly enjoy spending quality time with my family, particularly by organizing fun and engaging activities for my nearly two-year-old son. I cherish these moments of togetherness, whether we're exploring new recipes or simply enjoying each other's company. In my limited free time, I have a passion for reading, appreciating the beauty of sunsets from captivating locations, or starting the day with an invigorating early morning swim.

7.     How is Lidion Bank supporting your passions?

Lidion Bank provides the flexibility I truly appreciate as a mother with a passion for my career, allowing me to balance work responsibilities while attending to my son's needs. Additionally, the Bank offers a wide range of courses that can be completed at one's convenience, supporting continuous professional development.

8.     What advice would you give to someone considering a career in Financial Services?

Embrace networking and continuous learning as essential components of your career development. Actively seek to acquire extensive knowledge, pursue relevant qualifications, stay abreast of industry trends, and commit to lifelong learning.

9.     Share one thing that few people know about you.

This has been a longstanding aspiration of mine. I have a profound passion for the Maltese language, and I really aspire to write and publish a book in the future.
